This session will include a review of recent data and trends indicating the need for employment solutions, such as Transitional Jobs programs, for veteran populations and will also showcase current subsidized employment efforts across the country working with veterans with multiple barriers to employment.

Employment Opportunities in the Emerging Green Economy
Guided by advocates and an operating Transitional Jobs program, this session will discuss the emerging “Green Jobs” economy and how Transitional Jobs programs across the country are developing programs to serve as pipelines and opportunities for persons with barriers to employment to work in these developing industries. In addition, the session will focus on current efforts in the Oakland area to develop employment opportunities for persons with barriers to employment through the green jobs economy.

TANF & Transitional Jobs: Helping States Meet Federal Workforce Requirements
This session will discuss the final HHS TANF rules and regulations and how states can develop Transitional Jobs programs to meet their federal TANF requirements while moving TANF recipients to work. Session attendees will have the opportunity to hear from experts in the TANF field and learn how the statewide Transitional Jobs program, Community Jobs in Washington State, has adapted to the requirements.

Stepping Stones Out of Poverty I: Building Linkages between Transitional Jobs and Bridge Programs
Transitional Jobs programs are stepping stones out of poverty for people with barriers to employment around the country. What happens during and after the Transitional Job placement is critical to ensuring self-sufficiency and success for Transitional Jobs participants. This is the first of two sessions in the “Stepping Stones Out of Poverty” series and will discuss how Transitional Jobs programs can be pipelines into Bridge Programs offering opportunities for education and career advancement for participants.

Transitional Jobs programs are stepping stones out of poverty for people with barriers to employment around the country. What happens during and after the Transitional Job placement is critical to ensuring self-sufficiency and success for Transitional Jobs participants. This session is the second to follow in the series and will discuss how Transitional Jobs programs are developing industry focused training to advance participants and how Transitional Jobs programs have an opportunity to invest in their participants and communities through developing sector strategies within their current program.
