Motivational Interviewing: Building Relationships To Facilitate Change (Part 1)
Why aren’t participants ready to work? Motivational interviewing is a directive, client centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients explore and resolve ambivalence. Compared with nondirective counseling, it is more focused and goal directed. It recognizes and accepts the fact that clients who need to make changes in their lives approach counseling at different levels of readiness to change their behavior. This session will offer an introduction to Motivational Interviewing as part of best practices in case management series for Transitional Jobs providers. The NTJN encourages you to attend both Part 1 and Part 2 of this session in order to learn and practice motivational interviewing techniques.

Motivational Interviewing: Building Relationships To Facilitate Change (Part 2)
This is the final installment in a two-part session focused on motivational interviewing, a directive, client centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients explore and resolve ambivalence. This approach recognizes and accepts the fact that clients who need to make changes in their lives approach counseling at different levels of readiness to change their behavior. Attendees will have the opportunity to practice the techniques they learned in Part 1. Unless already familiar with motivational interviewing, attendees must attend Part 1 in order to participate fully in this session.
