Guided by advocates, this session will highlight and discuss federal recommendations by the NTJN for a new administration in order to support and build Transitional Jobs programs across the country. In addition, advocates will provide a brief overview and update of the current pieces of federal legislation that affect Transitional Jobs programs.

Urban Development: A Transitional Jobs Strategy for Cities
Facilitated by Cliff Johnson from The National League of Cities, city representatives will discuss how they adopted Transitional Jobs as a priority in their cities. Representatives will discuss the populations served, funding streams, and key stakeholders, as well as ways in which advocates and programs can best work with cities to develop Transitional Jobs programs.

Advancing Social Enterprises: The Role of State Workforce and Economic Development Policy
Social enterprises provide a promising model for providing transitional employment and training to low-income and disadvantaged populations. However, social enterprise development has not been a major focus of state policy. How can state workforce and economic development policies support social enterprises and move them to a scale necessary to have a major impact in states and communities? This session will focus on the major barriers in expanding social enterprises and how state workforce and economic development policies can address these barriers and advance the social enterprise movement.

Talking about Transitional Jobs: Effective Messages for Diverse Audiences
This session will explore how workforce professionals talk about Transitional Jobs and the broader workforce development field and how consistent and well-developed messages can result in program advancement and long term sustainability. The session will delve into the language and ways in which to frame Transitional Jobs in order to reach multiple audiences, including employers, elected officials, and community partners, and convey intended messages effectively.
